OUR CONCEPT

Transfiguration. A complete change of form or appearance into a more beautiful state.  That is our goal in producing 33 Variations- to transform what has already been done, and to reconfigure it, by making well thought-out, educated, and artistically charged choices. But how?

Our concept is to unwaveringly enmesh both worlds presented in 33 Variations (the present day and the 18th Century) to highlight the relationships within each and the parallels and "variations" to one another. We will evoke the profound, existential, and often universal questions to our audiences surrounding life's meaning of success, connection and perseverance. Is it possible that very little has transformed in those areas regarding our basic human needs or desires?

To achieve this we will, under careful direction, highlight these parallels through careful exploration of the relationship dynamics within the multiple pairings presented in the play. Precise timing, smooth character driven transitions, skillful blocking, and picture building- with careful attention to spacial relations- will allow both worlds to coexist on the "playing space" to achieve a layered approach. Our goal is for  the audience to experience not only an educational and musical journey, but to pursue further self exploration to what matters most in their lives and how to use the precious time we have here on on. Because as the play tells us:

                            "Time is scarce."
